Schaeffler has already established its position in the electromobility market with products that offer a combination of the benefits of high-tech, cost-effectiveness and sustainability. One of the the world’s leading automotive and industrial suppliers, the Kysuce plant shows that Slovakia also has potential for research and development in the field of electromobility.
A key competence centre is being built on the site of the Schaeffler Kysuce production plant. In addition to innovative solutions in the field of electromobility for automotive companies all over the world, it will provide as many as 450 employees with the opportunity to develop technological solutions for sustainable mobility that can increase the driving comfort and safety of hybrid, pure electric and autonomous vehicles.
Innovative solutions for cars of the future
The Kysuce plant develops and produces solutions in the fields of electromobility for engines, gearboxes and chassis. These include, for example, a modular, highly integrated technology platform for electric motors, hybrid powertrains, all-electric axles, electric parking brakes and mechatronic vehicle roll stabilisers – cutting-edge solutions and fully integrated electric drive systems, integrating engines, electronics, mechanics and software on the highest possible level. Currently, there are 230 experts working on R&D projects, who can also handle the industrialization of new products and complex solutions for vehicles we will see on the road in three or five years’ time. Another 220 colleagues will join them in the coming years.
Testing and prototype production
Thanks to its competences, the new R&D centre will cover the entire “life cycle” – from design through tests in the laboratories to the production of prototypes of innovative electromobility solutions. The new laboratories will push the volumes and quality of testing to a level that Schaeffler Kysuce has never seen before, the first tests to be added being sequential tests for innovative components for hybrid and all-electric vehicles.
